Job Detail:

The Zhilei Chen Medicinal Protein Lab is looking for enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about creating the next generation of affordable protein drugs. We believe that, just like medicinal chemistry, which shaped drug discovery in the 20th century, medicinal proteins are positioned to revolutionize drug discovery in the 21st century. We are particularly interested in developing small antibody-like protein binders against target antigens using structure-based protein design and directed evolution. A significant advantage of these small antibody-like protein scaffolds is their potential to be produced at low cost in microorganisms, making them more accessible and affordable to millions of people especially those living in developing countries. Current projects in the lab center around the creation and development of protein drugs for preventing and/or treating diverse viral (e.g. Zika virus, influenza virus, hepatitis virus) and bacterial (e.g. Clostridium difficile, pathogenic E. coli) infections. The ideal candidate should share our vision for the development of next-generation low-cost antibody-like protein drugs. Salary is commensurate with education, experience and NIH guideline. Duties will include: Develop and execute strategies to engineer proteins that strongly and specifically bind a desired target using molecular biology and high-throughput screening techniques. Utilize protein purification techniques and analytical methods to characterize proteins of interest. Participate in grant/manuscript/presentation preparation.
Advance research projects through synergistic interactions with both other lab members and collaborators. Other duties as assigned.
