Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years of related experience in administrative dietetic programs. State License and ADA Registration and License (RD/LDN) or ability to obtain within 90 calendar days from date of hire. Valid driver’s license. Good written and verbal communication skills; knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Master’s Degree; Registered Dietitian. Two years experience as a Registered Dietitian. Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE). Strongly preferred Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Job Detail:

Primary duties will include providing group and individual instruction in urban/rural settings. Responsibilities include conducting initial and follow-up assessments of program participants. General purpose includes assisting in the development, implementation and evaluation of education programs. Provides group and individual instruction in a variety of programs including: 1) diabetes self-management care and education 2) Fall Prevention Programs; 3) nutritional component of Texercise; 4) Asthma and COPD; and 5) other programs under Healthy South Texas. Instruction is delivered in a variety of urban and rural settings. Conducts initial and follow-up assessments for program participants, patient record-keeping, and program evaluation in accordance with the program and certifying entity guidelines. Assists in the development and implementation of educational programs and materials with a focus on nutrition. Coordinates and plans grocery educational tours and cooking demonstrations and performs related work as required. Stays well versed in new trends of evidence-based practice in the area of diabetes, fall prevention, physical activity, asthma and COPD. Serves as a member and attend meeting’s of the Diabetes Education Center’s Advisory Committee and other committees as designated. Maintains collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and community partners. Participates in health fairs, and in public speaking engagements. Works flexible schedule to include weekend and evening events. Other duties as assigned.

Work Hours:

M-F 8:30am-5:30pm; flexible hours as needed.
