Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree Marketing, Business, Communications or a related field. Ten years experience in marketing and or communications (eight years with Masters). Demonstrated working knowledge of current marketing and communications trends, market research, advertising, brand development, and constituent relationship-building. Ability to work collaboratively across multiple geographic campuses and units with a dispersed team of communications professionals and executive leadership. Capable of translating academic and scientific information for a broad range of constituencies. Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills; exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills. Experience writing ad copy, conducting market research, excellent oral and written skill communications skills, experience with social media technology and related analytics.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Master’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or related field. Three or more years experience in higher education marketing, communications, or related field. Experience in higher education; involvement in development and execution of a marketing plan; working knowledge of survey and design software programs (Qualtrics, Adobe Creative Suite).

Job Detail:

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Marketing and Communications, the Executive Director of Marketing provides leadership for departmental functions to include marketing, branding, design, web, social media, photography, videography and event planning. The Executive Director of Marketing drives strategic marketing initiatives aimed at elevating overall brand awareness for the Texas A&M Health Science Center through an integrated, collaborative and process-driven approach. This position is dedicated to the development of a comprehensive marketing agenda in support of the projection and advancement of the Health Science Center as a pre-eminent thought leader in health, advocacy and scientific discovery.
Provides leadership and consistency in planning, direction and evaluation for departmental functions to include marketing, branding, design, web, social media, photography, videography and event planning. Supervises and maintains responsibility for multiple units with the department, including directing the efforts of and supervising staff. Executes a strategic, comprehensive marketing agenda designed to drive integrated owned, earned and paid media strategies in support of institutional objectives. Leads the Health Science Center’s digital marketing and communications strategies including websites, newsrooms, e-newsletters, digital media assets, social media, SEO and paid search. Co-leads an integrated content marketing initiative centered around the Health Science Center’s online newsroom. Serves as publisher and ensures content governance, sustainability and accountability for a wide-range of content and collaborative distribution. Works directly with the Assistant Vice President for Marketing and Communications to develop and execute short-term and long-term departmental marketing goals and objectives. Participates in various on-campus and affiliated marketing/communications teams to ensure consistency and cohesion across all platforms. Provides strategic counsel to the Assistant Vice President for Marketing and Communications regarding matters relating to marketing focused departmental operations. Serves as part of the Public Affairs leadership team. Develops and evaluates owned and paid media analytics to understand audience behavior, adjust strategies and analyze the relationship between goals and metrics. Provides recommendations to measure success and plan for future initiatives. Coordinates major event planning and execution. Works closely with Health Science Center leadership to plan and budget for major events. Provides support for college-level events that are of interest to external audiences, extending the college brand but not rising to the institutional level. Collaborates with college-based communicators across the Health Science Center to provide strategic guidance consistent with the institutional approach to marketing. Other duties as assigned.

Work Hours:

Monday – Friday 8 – 5; occasional weekend and evening work required.
